Challenging times for Krohn Racing at ELMS Silverstone Qualifying

Krohn Racing will start from an unrepresentative ninth place on the grid for this afternoon’s 4 Hours of Silverstone, the opening round of the 2016 European Le Mans Series.

The team was greeted by snow falling as they arrived at the iconic Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, unseasonable weather even by British standards. Conditions improved to very wet for the start of the ten minute Qualifying session. The lottery element of this contest was increased by a Red Flag interruption on the opening lap. The resultant drop in tire and brake temperatures made a tricky situation almost impossible for all the competitors.

Björn Wirdheim, 2015 European Le Mans Series Cahmpion, making his début for Krohn Racing was improving lap on lap but was ultimately beaten by the Checkered Flag before he could realize the potential of the team’s Nissan-powered Ligier JS P2 prototype.

TRACY W. KROHN, Krohn Racing Team Owner/Driver:

“Well we did not expect snow this morning, so that was a bit of a surprise for us. Now it has quit snowing and is just raining a bit. The track is still quite wet but Björn did a very good job especially as the Qualifying session broken up by a car going off track at Turn 7. So the only guy to get the quick lap was the first guy out. Sometimes it works like that but I think we have a pretty good car  and we will continue from here, I am looking forward to the race.”

BJÖRN WIRDHEIM, Krohn Racing Team Driver:

“In Qualifying It was not great out there, we had a Red Flag early on, then it took a while for temperatures of the tires to come up. I was getting more confidence every lap and finding a lot of time. I could have done with another lap to be closer to the limit. Now we have to concentrate on the race and score some good points, we have a good car and a good team, so it is really achievable.”
