Strong Results for Krohn Racing at 4 Hours of Silverstone

Krohn Racing recorded an impressive fourth place overall with their Nissan-powered Ligier JS P2 prototype in the 4 Hours of Silverstone, the opening round of the 2016 European Le Mans Series.

The driver trio of Tracy Krohn, Nic Jönsson and Björn Wirdheim ran as high as second in the classification before just missing a podium position, a great start to the 2016 season.

Raceday did not start conventionally with snow falling before the morning Qualifying session. However the conditions improved for the race that was held in the afternoon and though rain was forecast on several occasions the competitors enjoyed a dry but chilly contest.

Björn Wirdheim took the role of first driver in the car for the team and skillfully avoided the opening lap melee that caught out several other competitors. The Swede, the 2015 European Le Mans Series Champion, gained both pace and places in an impressive début race stint for Krohn Racing. He handed the car over the car to Tracy Krohn who maintained the good work with a strong consistent pace. Bringing the car home to a well earned fourth spot was Nic Jönsson. Nic used all his racing experience to eke out the fuel left in the car in the run to the Checkered Flag while maintaining a front-running speed. Fourth place was quite an achievement for Krohn Racing considering the strength in depth in the 2016 ELMS.

TRACY W. KROHN, Krohn Racing Team Owner/Driver: “A great day at Silverstone, our goal was to finish in the top five and we achieved through speed and a great fuel strategy. The engine stumbled at the last corner, so we didn’t waste any, it was very close. The team did a great job, everything went off very well and we are very pleased with how today went.

I made one little mistake in my stint, that might have cost a place but otherwise I was very pleased for our first race of the year here at Silverstone and I am looking forward to
Imola.”

NIC JÖNSSON, Krohn Racing Driver: A great result for us, especially considering the weather conditions this weekend, a fourth place is a fantastic result for Krohn Racing. The team has done a phenomenal job, choosing the right tires at the right time and the fuel strategy that we had secured us this result, Lee, our engineer, should get credit for that. Tracy did a great job in his stint after Björn got the car up into the top three both deserve credit. It is a great start to the season and now we must keep the momentum going.”

BJÖRN WIRDHEIM, Krohn Racing Driver: “It was a really, really great day, it was a great result for Krohn Racing to finish fourth today. A really great performance from the whole team, especially Tracy and Nic. It has been a fun weekend but really tricky because my time in the car before the race was limited. It was only in the first stint that I became comfortable with that and able to push. I had a good start, even though it was a bit chaotic but I was able to take advantage of that. The car was set up really well and the Michelin Tires were fantastic and this helped me advance through the field. We stayed out of trouble and scored some really good points and it has been a great experience being part of the Krohn Racing team.”

LEE PENN, Krohn Racing Race Engineer: “It was a good race for Krohn Racing, we were well aware in testing that we had a decent race pace. We had poorish Qualifying that was due to the weather and lack of laps for Björn, In the race we found our true pace and the result reflects that it is very satisfying”

JEFF GLOVER, Krohn Racing Team Manager: “From where we started the race all three drivers did a great job, the two pros, Nic and Björn, did their bit but Tracy did an exceptional job. All the guys on the team did their best and this added up to a good result for Krohn Racing today. We should also thank Michelin who gave us the right tires that were a factor in getting our season off on the right foot.”
